YeeeeHah everybody.....We are getting reports of door to door cold calling fence
and tree repairers. Our advice is to only use a recognised
local tradesman.
just a reminder that fallen trees that on the public highway
are the responsibility of the council. some cold callers are
trying to charge for that service. Any problems call Barnet

From Boroughwatch: This is an urgent police warning.
There has been a recent increase in Distraction burglary offences across the
Borough. In particular the methods used at the moment are either Gas Board
workers being let in or more worryingly two recent case involve bogus Police
Officers.
One male and one female both white in their thirties.
They have a silver type badge in a small wallet which they show quickly. They
have stated they are carrying out surveys on the elderly to see if they should
have CCTV fitted. Once inside one keeps victim talking the other carries out
the theft after victims disclose where they keep their money thinking the
Police will advise. Please give out the usual advice .Don\'t let them in! If
unsure,if they are Police call us first we will not mind. Talk through the door
or intercom, do not open it.
Next info is regarding Sat Navs going up again. Those out
on display are getting taken. Especially in the cinema area of Stables Corner.
Please remind to take out of vehicle and remove sucker marks from the vehicle.
13 from Staples Corner area alone over the weekend!!

URGENT MESSAGE
PERSON POSING AS NHW CO-ORDINATOR
Recently a male person tricked an elderly couple into opening their front door and forced an entry into their premises. He had first approached the couple when they were shopping in Sainsbury’s in New Barnet and mumbled something which they said they did not understand, he walked off and they continued their shopping. Over an hour later when they returned home to Somerset Road the same person was standing outside their block of flats and said he was from neighbourhood watch and wanted to know where they lived. When they opened their front door he barged in past them into their bedroom and demanded to know where they kept their money, saying he wanted to see that their money was safe as there had been reports of burglaries. No money was handed over and the suspect then left the premises and made off in a white car, registration number, make and model unknown.
The suspect is a white male of stocky build, aged about 40, 5 foot 6 inches tall with short brown hair. He had a blotchy face and was clean-shaven. He was wearing a white tee shirt with a blue Nike logo on the front, knee length khaki shorts and beige slip on shoes. He spoke with an Irish accent.
While in the premises the suspect was careful not to touch any item with his hands, he always had a cloth in his hand. He is anxious not to be identified and is probably already known to the police.
If anyone fitting this description is seen dial 999 immediately and quote Barnet police CAD 4161 of 12/6/06.
As the Ringmaster system is not working please distribute this information as widely as you can, particularly to any elderly neighbours for them to be on their guard.
Distributed to BBW committee members and NHW Co-ordinators in Oakleigh Ward.
