Have you ever looked at your house as though you were a Burglar, how easy could it be if you for example lost your door key, to get in? If you can think of a way in then so can a potential Burglar.

Barnet Borough Police would like to offer some ideas to assist householders and business to deter that unwanted visitor. Burglars will often commit their crime by choosing the building that gives them the easiest opportunity, perhaps they see a downstairs window open or they look under the outside mat and find spare key. Burglars don’t want to get caught; they want to steal your property. Lets make it harder to commit Burglary on Barnet.

.editor_5d397d7fa168454947534b548d10294f_0d2a87.gifSheds and other outbuildings may get forgotten when it comes to home security –

you probably remember to double lock your front door and close your windows but the shed door is secured with a small, 20-year-old padlock and you can’t remember if you locked the garage the last time you were in there - yet the things you store in the shed might have cost thousands of pounds!

Consider the value of the property you are keeping in your shed or garage and think about whether it ought to be better protected or secured – can you afford to replace it if it is stolen?

Will replacement take time and effort, even if your insurance covers the loss?”

Be advised the following measures to help safeguard your property stored in outbuildings:

Warm Weather Warning Print E-mail

upstairs-open-windowWarm Weather Warning!!

The warm weather is here, but this has led to a number of Burglaries in the last week only happening because its been made easy for the opportunist thief to walk in through open windows and patio doors.

Barnet Borough Police are emphasising that residents need to be more cautious about leaving exterior doors and windows open and unlocked.  Whenever the house is unoccupied, exterior doors must be locked and ALL ground floor windows MUST be closed and locked if possible. When residents are at home care must be taken to ensure that all ground floor windows are closed and where possible locked before retiring for the night.

Hide your car keys! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 07 February 2006

Barnet Police are issuing guidelines after a spate of thefts and burglaries where the target has been the car parked outside the house. Since January 2006 there have been 383 burglaries reported to police, within those 45 vehicles have been stolen.

Most modern cars nowadays have excellent security, forcing thieves to resort to having to use the keys to the vehicle to steal them.  This often means breaking into the house to steal the keys to the car or using rods or canes through letterboxes to remove the keys from just inside the front door.

So what can car owners do?  Click Read More to find out
