Message from Barnet’s Borough Commander
I am already aware that some residents of Barnet have had family or friends injured as a result of the tragic events in Central London yesterday. May I on behalf of Barnet Police offer my sympathies to any of you affected by this. With its close proximity to Central London, Barnet will undoubtedly feel the effects for some time to come. This message is intended to offer some reassurance to all of you. Every available officer on Barnet Borough is now working to support Barnet Borough as well as supporting our colleagues in Central London. You will have noticed an increased police presence around the borough; this is to fulfil three aims; 1 To act as a deterrent to further terrorist activity 2 To offer reassurance to residents and the travelling public 3 To prevent the actions of those who would use this event to justify their racist attitudes to commit hate crime. In consultation with community and religious leaders, we will also be providing reassurance patrols in close proximity to Mosques and Synagogues this weekend and on Sunday, Church attendees will notice an increased police presence My message to you all is this – be alert but not alarmed. The purpose of terrorism is to terrorise. Whilst there will inevitably be apprehension in our community, to give in to that apprehension will provide the single greatest victory to those who perpetrated this heinous crime. |
