Vehicle Crime Updates Print E-mail
In the last 12 weeks, at least 20 Satellite Navigation systems have been taken from vehicles across the Borough. The most favoured method to break into the vehicles is to smash a window. The majority of these offences are taking place in the HA8 area of the borough.

Many of these systems that are available nowadays are removable and Barnet Police are advising motorists that where possible to take the system out of the car when parking up and leaving the car, to prevent it being stolen.

In just the same way as in-car stereos and radios are sometimes installed with a removable part, some Sat Nav systems are the same and these should be taken indoors or hidden away when the vehicle is left for any length of time. This will not only prevent the system being stolen but will also reduce the damage caused to cars to get into them to steal these items.

On a different theme, car keys are still being hooked through letterboxes so that the car parked on the drive or outside the house can be easily stolen with no damage to the car. The car is then easily sold on with a set of keys!

Don’t leave keys near the front door or any window where they can be seen and therefore easily removed.
