ringmaster_1_1.gifThis is a Barnet Boroughwatch message:

Two men called on an elderly person in East End Road, East Finchley and claimed to be from Neighbourhood Watch. They told the person that they had stopped a suspect outside her house with a large sum of money on them. They asked her if the money belonged to her.
She of course said no.... They asked her where her money was kept, she invited them in and pointed out her hiding place.   Of course they then
stole the £3000 that she had in the "hiding place".

Neighbourhood watch members do not stop people or ask to come into your home and they do not carry any form of NHW identity. If in any doubt call police on 999.

This is one of the major drawbacks to having a successful Neighbourhood watch, fraudsters are going to use whatever trick they have in the book to get into your premises and take from you.  There are some good lessons to learn from this incident,  particularly don't tell anyone if and where you hide any money in your house, or even better don't even open the door to them.  One of our police speakers ,  at our local AGM gave us some good advice, he said "Just because they ring at your door, doesn't mean you should answer it!"

Stay aware and take care

Regards
