On Thursday December 15th 2005 at about 12noon an 89-year-old female had her purse stolen from her bag while she was out shopping in Station Road, Edgware.

The victim had been saving her money for about 6 months to spend on presents and food for Christmas and the purse contained £350.00.  As she went to pay for her purchases in one of the shops she found that her purse had been stolen from her bag.  She returned home empty handed and very distressed.

When she rang Colindale Police Station to report the incident she spoke to PC Karen Walshe, who on hearing the story was touched by it and decided to organise a collection for the distressed victim.  Within a few hours she had collected a total of £368.45 from officers and staff at the station also touched by her plight.  The victim was given the  money on Friday 16th so that she could go and complete all the shopping she had planned to do.  She was very grateful and is now looking forward to her Christmas.
