What Service Does The Motor Vehicle Forensic Surgery Offer ?

The establishment of a motor vehicle forensic surgery (M.V.S.F.) at Colindale police station will further assist the boroughs efforts to combat motor vehicle crime. The purpose of the surgery is to maximise the potential to increase forensic detections and to improve the quality of service provided to our victims of theft from motor vehicle.

1.             Every victim of theft from motor vehicle upon contacting Police to report the crime should be given forensic preservation advice by the person they initially speak to, if it is suitable. (theft of registration plates, for example, may not be suitable).

2.             They will be then be contacted back by Police as soon as possible and a decision will be made by the officer as to any potential forensic evidence that may be in existence.

3.             If this is not the case, the crime will be reported there and then.

 4.             If there is potential forensic evidence, and the victim agrees to partake in the MVFS scheme, an appointment will be arranged for them to attend Colindale Police Station with their vehicle. The crime WILL NOT be reported until the victim attends.

5.             Upon attending Colindale Police Station the victim will be spoken to by a Police Officer, who will report the crime, complete a statement and furnish the victim with a crime reference number. The Scene Of Crime Officer (SOCO) will also be in attendance and will examine the victim’s vehicle for forensic evidence.

This procedure should take no longer thirty minutes.

6.             By speaking to the victim direct and seeing the vehicle for themselves, Police will be able to gather more intelligence on vehicle crime with the Borough, establish any patterns / methods and act accordingly in an effort to combat vehicle crime in that specific area.
